Modelboat Mayhem Weekend at Wicksteed Park 2014.
The seventh year of this event at Wicksteed Park proved to be another successful show once again despite what has become know as 'heavy-duty Northamptonshire mist' trying its best to disrupt the setting up and running of the weekend!
A fantastic gathering of more than nine clubs and two traders succeeded in the face of the weather on Saturday morning to put on a good show, although the freak weather squall at 4pm Saturday afternoon certainly tested us! There were clubs from as a far as Glasgow and West Wales, and visitors from as far north as the Shetland Islands.
This year we had a new attraction being displayed on the lake, Ian McCaffrey from West Wales MBC and his assistant Carl put on a pyrotechnical show of a 6ft long Bismarck battleship attacking three target vessels in a gunnery range style shoot and resulted in the three explosions of the targets. A very impressive display which is hoped to be repeated next year.
Another new attraction was the gathering of sixteen Victorian era warships of which nine sailed together to recreate a Spithead Review style parade. These are models of the early style of modern battleships (known as pre-dreadnoughts) and cruisers which were at the turn of the last century the most powerful weapons in the world. Next year we are planning an even bigger collection and hope to sail in a grander style.
A good selection of models were on display this year, everything from J-class yachts to Scottish attired ducks, Stevenage MBC put on an excellent display of I/C powered lifeboats and skimmers, whilst Steamboatphil aka Phil Abbot and his good friend Stavros aka Dave Jones showed everyone how straight running is done!
A big thank you to Martin Davis, and his family for running the tea tent and supplying the bacon butties for the early risers, Pete C (Klunk) and Bill Warder (BillD203) for helping running the show, and Ron Dean of Deans Marine, and Andy & Debbie of Models By Design for supporting the show once again. A big thank you to Brian Lodge (html) for organising the weekend but unfortunately being unable to attend.
We are looking forward to next year, and hope the weather improves!

There are some pictures in the slide shows below of the event that I took through out the event but there is a much larger selection and comment on the Mayhem website. There is a direct link to that site from the home page. PM.
