Presentation of the Keith Carey Memorial Shield 2014.
It hardly seems possible that twelve months have slipped by since I was last reporting the results of the competition amongst club members for the Keith Carey Memorial Shield (2014)
With the weather being so unpredictable this year we ended up with the event being on a different day to the final steering course of the year and as so often happens it was the best attended event yet with I believe over 20 Scale craft of every description being entered.
As is now tradition the results are not announced until the evening of the club's Christmas Dinner, held on Monday the 8th of December 2014, at the Stirrup Cup in Barton Seagrave.
Our guest of honour Maureen Carey, her Daughter Kim with her husband and son attended the dinner.
Prior to the awards being made Kim made a short speech in memory of her Dad and of his enjoyment of model sailing, of the Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club and the pleasure that It gave him and also the pleasure and pride that it gave to Maureen to present the award
Nick Brown who organised all the steering events throughout the year and the Shield event then took over to announce the winners, the judging was straight forward and uncomplicated, the members who attended the event listed their choice of best boat on the water and static display in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd order and the results for this year were
1st Paul Millers
2nd Ron Kingdon
3rd Tony Howlett.
Both Maureen and Kim were thanked for their attendance at the presentation and their continued support of the club and a good evening was had by all.
