About WPMBC
Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club restarted as a club in February 2005, however there has been a model boat club based at Wicksteed Park since the early 1920s. Originally called ‘Wicksteed Model Yacht & Power Boat Club the boats have changed from vane yachts and pole racing I/C powered boats to scale and power boats with Footy racing yachts. The original hard standings for the yachts and the pole support are still visible in the lake after 90 years. The club has over 70 members each with their own taste in model boats varying from the Footy yachts to 8ft long scale warships.

The lake is a purpose built concrete lined model boat lake which was refurbished in 2004 as part of a Lottery grant. The lake is 90m x 30m and varies in depth from 50cm to 70cm but is easily accessible by waders at all times of the year. The club has use of the lake seven days a week with members regularly sailing their boats on Thursday mornings and Sunday mornings. The club has access to a secure storage area and a lakeside shelter with removable sides incase of inclement weather.

Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club can regularly be seen at events throughout the Midlands varying from the International Model Boat show at Warwick to open days of local model boat manufacturers. We are always happy to see visitors at Wicksteed Park as it was the country’s first themed park, with large numbers of free swings and slides in the playground it is perfect to bring the family whilst you can sail your boat.
Hope to see you sailing here soon, |
