International Model Boat Show 2016
This year marked the eighth time we have displayed our model boats at the prestigious International Model Boat Show (IMBS). The club stand was once again split into the club's wide variety of interests, vintage boats from the 1940s/1950s/1960s, and the 100th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Jutland with a WW1 Battle Fleet of Dreadnoughts and accompanying cruisers and destroyers. Alan Burgess showed off his progress with his outstanding Murrey Paddle Steamer and Nigel Marriot displayed two of the most unusual vessels we have ever seen modelled- Ram Form Sovereign (a Seismic Survey Vessel) and Esvagt Aurora which is a X-Bow supply tug.
Mark Ellingham showed his first build of his fantastic version of KM Bismarck in 1/128th scale, which measures 6ft long! John and Angela Pates showed the club's sailing contingent with a racing Fiesta yacht and a rare Tamiya racing yacht from 2004. The Battle fleet was displayed by myself with Dreadnought, Emden and B-110, Ron and Sheila Kingdon with Agincourt, Superb and Hannibal, David Viewing with a beautifully built Niobe, and Tony Newstead with Marksman, Verdun, Apollo, and Chishima. Keith Gubbins displayed his lovely little working canal barge, whilst Roger Clements and Paul Millers displayed a huge number of both restored and original vintage craft. Clive and Jan Beard showed a lovely Pilot Boat and an experimental model boat powered by electric ducted fans (EDF) used to chase the geese off the lake! A special thanks to Clive for collecting, editing and presenting all the photos and videos from all the club events over the past year on to the TV screen on the club stand. And finally the chairman revealed his 1/72 scale Train Ferry from WW1 and a model that both he and I built almost 10 years ago- a 1/12th scale RAF General Purpose Pinnace. And of course the Maureen Millers Memorial Cup competition winner was chosen and the lucky recipient will be awarded the cup at the club's Christmas Dinner next month.
Wicksteed Park MBC would like to thank the organisers of the show- Meridienne Exhibitions- and to the clubs who voted for our stand to be awarded joint third in the best club/society stand competition.
Many thanks to John Pates for the photos that can be seen below... enjoy!
